We were going through our old files and found these images and video from Fashion Week Brazil 2006. It's an eco fashion haute couture runway show of dresses designed by Ronaldo Fraga, a homegrown Brazilian fashion hero who comes from the town of Menas Gerais. Fraga has since gone on to earn a reputation worldwide for his 'bold, critical and humorous' style. This collection really changes the perception of what clothing made from recycled materials should look like.
We own two pieces from this runway collection and we've loaned them out over the years to customers in Sweden, Hong Kong and Japan for in-store promotions. The reaction in each country has been the same: amazement.
The gowns were designed by Fraga and hand woven by Escama's artisan partners using recycled aluminum pull-tabs and crochet. Each dress is a work that required hundreds of hours to complete.
